The Island Tour takes us around the beautiful and captivating capital of Basseterre, which was first settled by the French in 1625. As we journey into Basseterre we will find the unique and quaint pelican shopping mall, adjoining the National Museum which is presently housed in the former Treasury Building. The structure with the clocks on all four sides is called the Berkeley memorial which is a replica of the Piccadilly Circus in London. Independence Square was a slave market where they sold slave.
The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will be on the right side. At the top of the street on the east side you will find a monument of Queen Victoria. Also in the capital you will see the police headquarters the main station on the island, her majesty prison, St. George Anglican Church, the ferry and bus terminal, the war memorial built in honor of World War 1 and 2 for men who fought the British arm force war.
As we go west on the tour we will come across various historical sites namely Bloody Point where the British and French coalition slaughtered the Carib Indians, Romney Manner home of Caribelle Batik which has lush tropical cattail, fire cracker, and fan palms. Brimstone Hill Fortress, a world heritage site also known as the Gibraltar of the West Indies, will also be seen on the tour. It is 800 ft above sea level.
After visiting the Brimstone Hill Fortress we will take a cool ride to the beach where you will fall in love with a landscape that consists of lush hillside as far as the eye can see. Also, at this point we see Timothy Hill, which will give you a view of 2 oceans at the same time. You will see the Atlantic on your left and Caribbean Sea on your right with a narrow strip dividing them. Enjoy the clear, turquoise water that begs you to come and explore and an unparalleled view of mountains and also our sister island Nevis.
At the Cockleshell bay you can spend the rest of your day getting a tan and also there you can take part in water sports or try some of our great Caribbean food. After spending your day at the beach we take you back to the capital to do your shopping before going back to the ship.
